Algeria has completed studies for a major 2,400-kilometre railway project to link the northern and southern regions of the country. The National Agency for Railway Studies and Investment Monitoring has been tasked with overseeing the technical and feasibility studies for this project, which is part of a wider initiative to improve Algeria's railway network. Approximately 1,080 kilometres of this railway line have already been planned, while the rest is nearing completion. This railway network will connect Algiers, on the northern coast, to Tamanrasset, on the southern border with Niger, while a parallel line passing through 10 wilayas is expected to span a total distance of 2,406 kilometres. This project is in line with the Algerian president's directive to modernise and expand the country's rail infrastructure, particularly by establishing connections to the westernmost regions, including the trans-desert line to Niger.
